What Is The Main Cause For The Youth Violence? Who should be held responsible for the ill of our society?

From time to time Piggy’s regime held a meeting after meeting just for the photo-up, no real agenda how to tackle the problem even they now how which however I doubt they do simply because the regime itself is the part of problem. The youth anti social behaviour isn’t new phenomenon in the region and it’s always a sign of looming disaster around the corner.

Healthy society produces a healthy offspring or new righteous generation. On the other hand disfranchise society also creates an angry, destitute and resentful generation ( generation x African style) I think every body would agree with me on that point, so let us see HALKEY SARTU KAQUDHUNTAY, a little historical prospective may enlighten for us as to how we arrived this awkward situation isn’t it?.

Djibouti inherited a functioning institution that to some degree respects the local tradition; the system empowered the various communities through Chief Quartier and unpaid respectable community elders acting as community policing, there was a mutual recognition between these community leaders and the government various government authorities in other word it was the actual government by people for the people ordinary people has the feeling that they are part of inclusive government. For example if one of local youth get in trouble with the law and arrested by the police, the Parents and community leaders intervene and take the full responsibility. The police chief is obligated to give a change the arbitration, these unique traditional remedy to every problem not only free up the costly court system of the government but it also empower the community and makes them feel they are part of the government.

The existing social fabric has been destroyed slowly for the last two decades or so. Piggy was instrumental through late Yassin Yabe Col. De Police National, the systematic destruction to under mind the community power structure for short-term, again without putting into consideration the long-term effect. The intention of Piggy as a National Security Director was to insert his power and manipulate the local community leaders in order to position himself as undisputed future leader of Djibouti; hence Piggy politicized the existing traditional community system that was in place. Piggy centralized the power structure of the government in early 90’s. Some cheap characters use to call him Monsieur le President at that time it’s unheard off, it was a fear of intimidation that some of them forced to give him a title that he didn’t deserve.

Like it or not we are paying the price of ill faded policies of Piggy to get short cut to the highest office of the land. From community policing to the abusive power of late Yasin Yabe and finally the slow process of disfranchising community way before these youths (generation x ) haven’t even born, the ever lasting psychological effect that Piggy created is responsible for our miss fortune. For example to the system is highly centralized and have no save guard procedure if you have an issue or some of your family arrested for allegedly violates the law, the attitude of authority like CAANO is disturbing one, he will not let under any circumstance that anyone to bail you out, in other word no bail-bond can be arranged, the only option you have is that someone who you know has to track down Col. Abdi Abdillahi and ask him a favour.

Imagine if you were growing-up a house hold that father is psychologically disturbed; he is no longer a productive part of society that he once was, not only his role as active member of society suddenly vanished but he also being ridicule and lured to dirty politics of Piggy of divide and rule. It’s a daily ritual to be discussed at midday lunch time where the parents openly share Piggy’s gross mismanagement, abusive of power, and daily intimidation that they have to endure, adults didn’t understand the unintended consequence that the daily bashing of Piggy’s regime around the children might create in long-term problem, in another word the children have developed overtime the concept of the government of being the enemy of their powerless guardian. So that the anti social behaviour of the youth is not only to defend the dignity of their parents but it also the way to manifest the misery of joblessness and doomy-gloomy of their future under Piggy and Odette de Chihuahua.

Strongly enough the first group of the society who can predict the dooms day of the regime are the youth, their action can only be translated the wide-spread discontent of the majority Djiboutian. You just need to examine the recent history of our neighbour to the South of the border that we have a lot in common, the SHEEDSHEED AMA DHAGAXTOOR, the sense of feeling lawlessness was there before the late Siyad Barreh regime collapsed, unfortunate the busy agenda of Piggy has no mode to re-visit or at least try to correct some his ill-faded social policy that he created through his countless illegal Presidential decree.
